Her father is Durnand Zinta and mother is Nilprabha Zinta and her father was an Indian army officer who was died by a road accident when she was only 13 years old. Her mother was also seriously injured. Preity has also two brothers. She is the middle of her brothers.

In her early age, she taught to be an English graduate but later, she studied on criminal psychology. She started her carrier as a model, later she was casted in film "Tara rum pum pum" which is never made. Then she had done a small role in movie " Dil se".
